United New York City Half Marathon

Hey!

United NYC Half 2017
I am excited to announce on this blog that I am running this race tomorrow . It is my second time around. I am running again because this race is easily my favorite race ever.  It is not a walk in the park because of the distance, but the excitement you get from the way this race is set up is mind-blowing. Although the course is different from last years, runners are still passing through Times Square, which is the LIVELIEST place in the whole world. The first few miles were done inside the park and as you came out of the park, all of a sudden, was a big crowd, cheering you on. The feeling you got, was out of this world. It was exciting and humbling at the same time.

I usually do not get trained professionally. I simply do a few miles per week, which includes a long distance, that is done on Sundays. That long distance increases week by week, up to 13 miles. I usually taper the following weekend, which precedes Race Day.
During the week, I do a mix of speed workouts, progression and recovery run. I also go to the gym and work on my core, arms and do some speed drills.  Sometimes it's too cold or due to the ice on the ground, I use the treadmill at the gym
One additional thing I have incorporated into my regimen is foam rolling. I can't tell you enough how important it is to use foam rollers as a runner. They really bring the sore points to the surface and  help dissolve whatever discomfort you are having.
So, in summary, I have been training for this Half since January 24th, two days after my last Half Marathon, which was my fastest Half Marathon ever!!!

And tomorrow, I am taking on another half marathon challenge. The United NYC Half Marathon is the most wanted one in the whole world. I am so excited that I got picked in the lottery to run with 22,000 plus other runners.
