Freetress Bohemian Crochet Braids

Hey everyone,

Look what I came up with after 15 hours of labor... LOL

I had been thinking seriously about crochet braids for the past one month, and scared of attempting it as well. I must have watched about 100 videos before I finally got the courage to go for it. I am so glad I did and it was not so bad after all. It took that long because I really took my time and wanted it to look presentable since it was my first time.

As always, I have a video which I have not even thought of editing.

The braiding pattern consist of 20 cornrows in the front and 10 in the back. The cornrows in the middle, from the front, were braided in pair into a cornrow, at the back. The cornrows were done with braiding hair. I used braiding hair to give my hair thickness and a firm foundation for crocheting. There will be more info on the video.

I used the crochet needle pictured below, which I got for a dollar at my local beauty supply store.

I used Freetress Bohemian Braid in 1B/33, which has brown highlights. The curl pattern is tight, however, I separated the hair to make the curls looser.

I did not start the cornrows from my edges, if you noticed because I am protecting my hairline.

I shaped it up afterwards to get this layered look.

I really like it. I will do an updated post on Maintenance. But it is not going to be any different from how I maintain my other long-term protective styles(28 days).

  3. That is really cute. I have done them several times on my daughters hair and she rocks them proudly. very easy to do. Usually takes me about 4 hours to install and at least 1/2 hour to braid her hair. Love the crochet Braids.

    1. Thanks! It takes you hour hours only?
Well, I hope I get better the second time around. It was my first time doing it on myself hence the 15 hrs.

  4. This is one of my favorite styles. As a little tip, I mix a pomade with a little Eco Styler gel to keep the hair under control. Its excellent for limiting the frizz that sneaks up on you after a week or so of having this style. All in all it is affordable and you don't mind removing after 4 weeks or so since I can finish it in a couple of hours or so.

    Great job (as always)!

  6. Wondering how you are maintening your crochet braids. I just installed crochet braids a couple of weeks ago. I just saw your braid maintenance video on Youtube and was was wondering if you can do the same process with the crochet braids ( using plastic cap, going under the dryer)
